ALISHER USMANOV - Founder of the Holding

Alisher USMANOV was born in 1953 in the town Chust, Namangansky region of Uzbekistan. In 1976 he graduated from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO) with a degree in International Law. In 1997 he graduated from the Financial Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation with a degree in banking. Alisher USMANOV also holds a degree of Master of Social science. Speaks English, French and Uzbek.

Having graduated from MGIMO he worked at the Academy of Science of USSR as a researcher, and as General Director of the Association for Foreign Economy of the Committee for Peace of the Soviet Union.

1990 – 1994 - Deputy General Director of JSC Intercross.

1994 – 1995 - Adviser to the General Director of Moscow Aviation Industrial Enterprise (MAPO)

1995 – 1997 - First Deputy Chairman of MAPO Bank

1994 – 1998 - General Director of Interfin Investment and Finance Company

1997 – 2001 - Member of the Board of Arkhangelsk Mining and Research Company

1998 – 2000 - First Deputy General Director of Gazprominvestholding

In 2000 – 2001 Mr. USMANOV served as an adviser to the Chairman of Gazprom

As of February 2000 till present he serves as General Director of Gazprominvestholding

Alisher USMANOV is a co-owner of METALLOINVEST holding which comprises the leading assets in the Russian metals and mining industry – Lebedinsky GOK, Mikhailovsky GOK, Ural Steel and OEMK, has also shares in Uralmash. He is a co-owner of the media holding which comprises 7TV and Muz-TV federal television channels and 33 regional TV broadcasting stations. Besides this, Alisher USMANOV personally owns the Kommersant  and Sekret Firmy Publishing Houses, shares in the company SUP, which controls Internet website Livejournal.com and internet newspaper «Gazeta.ru».

Mr.Usmanov is a co-owner of Russia's third-largest mobile telephone operator MegaFon and Russian investment fund Digital Sky Technologies (DST), which owns stakes in popular web portals like Mail.ru, Odnoklassniki.ru, Vkontakte.ru, Facebook.com and others. A.Usmanov also holds over 26% stake of the British football club Arsenal.

Mr. USMANOV is the President of International Fencing Federation (FIE). He is a member of the Council under the President of Russia for the Development of Physical Culture and Sport, Excellence in Sports, Preparation and Organization of the 2014 Sochi XXII Winter Olympics and XI Paralympics, the 2013 Kazan XXVII Summer Universiade, and a member of the “Russian Olympian sportsmen support fund” board of trustees.

Alisher USMANOV is a member of the Board of Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, a member of the Board of Trustees of Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, of the Bolshoi Theatre and Moscow State Institute for International Relations (MGIMO).  USMANOV is one of the founders of the Arts and Sports Charity Foundation. He is a guarantor of the Charity project “One Thousand Russian cities”.

According to presidential decree № 365 of March 17, 2004 Mr. USMANOV was awarded with a Medal of Honor of Russia. He also possesses a gratifying letter from President of Russian Federation of May 7, 2000.

Mr. USMANOV is married. His wife Irina Viner is the head coach of AllRussian Federation of the sportive gymnastics.
