Joint Stock Company «Oskol Elektrometallurgical Plant» (JSC «OEMK») is situated in the area of a unique iron ore deposit – Kursk Magnetic Anomaly. Today, within the Steel division of Holding Company METALLOINVEST, OEMK is the first and so far the only Russian enterprise that has implemented, on an industrial scale, the technological principles of Direct reduction metallurgy. It is this new technology based upon MIDREX direct iron reduction process and electric arc smelting that helped the Europe-biggest production complex of such type to reach an entirely new level of metal’s quality, almost completely free of detrimental impurities and residual elements.

Technological process stability and high skills of personnel is what helps OEMK to expand the range of its metal products and ensure the required level of quality indicators.

The Plant’s control and test laboratories are accredited in the system of the Russian Federal Agency on technical regulation and metrology. They include up-to-date equipment and highly knowledgeable experts, who carry out chemical composition analysis, microstructure and macrostructure evaluation, check the steel impurity with regard to non-metallic inclusions, perform a set of tests to verify the rolled product application properties stipulated by the requirements of different consumers, including mechanical properties, hardenability, etc. The plant has mastered and employs the steel quality control methods according to ISO, DIN, ASTM, and other standards.

The unique application properties have ensured stable demand for the Company’s products in the markets of Russia, CIS, and worldwide. The main consumers of OEMK’s steel products in the Russian market are automotive, machine-building, piping, wire, and bearing enterprises to whom it sells alloyed pipe shells, wire rods, rolled sections in bundles and rods.  OEMK’s key clients are: Pervouralsky, Sinarsky, and Volzhsky piping factories; Orel and Cherepovets steel rolling plants, AvtoVAZ, GAZ, UAZ; Saratov, Stepnogorsk, and Kharkov bearing factories, Cheboksary aggregate plant, Volgograd tractor plant, Belorus metallurgical plant, and other companies. OEMK’s metal products are exported to Germany, France, USA, Italy, Norway, Turkey, Egypt, and many other countries. The company has mastered production of rolled sections from which parts are made that are used by the world’s leading car makers: PSA Peugeot Citroen, Mercedes, Ford, Renault, Volkswagen.
