Lebedinsky GOK today

Joint Stock Company «Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant» (JSC «Lebedinsky GOK») is a part of Holding Company METALLOINVEST and is the largest plant in Russia on iron ore extraction, beneficiation and production of high-grade raw materials for ferrous metallurgy.

The Lebedinsky ferrous quartzites deposit of Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, which is unique in regard to its scale and quality, is the source of raw materials for the Plant. Confirmed iron ore reserves of Lebedinsky GOK make more than 6 billion tons, which ensures provision of the Plant with high-grade raw materials for uninterrupted operation for more than 250 years.

Lebedinsky GOK is the only Russian manufacturer of Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI). The Plant holds a 21% share of Russian commercial iron ore market.

High quality and wide range of the production enable the Plant to compete successfully both on the domestic and outside markets where the production is delivered in the ratio of about 50/50.

Over a long period of time the constant customers of iron ore raw materials at the domestic market have been such enterprises as Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK), Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel works (MMK), Tulachermet, Mechel. Intragroup iron ore raw materials supplies are effected to OEMK. Among the main Plant’s customers for iron ore products at the outside market are enterprises of Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Czech republic, China, South Korea. In recent years Lebedinsky GOK has significantly strengthened its positions at the brand new markets of East and west Europe as well as South East Asia without loss of traditional sales markets.

One of the important factors of Lebedinsky GOK’s successful activity is the use of the information control system. This system allows to monitor in online mode the complete flow of the technological process (starting from rock mass loading inside the open pit mine and ending with production and shipment of finished products); to obtain the information about Fe content in the iron ore, to evaluate the state and the performance of the beneficiation equipment, indurating machines, HBI Plants and other equipment. All data are archived in the system which allows receiving information required to conduct analysis and take decisions. Implementation of this system gave the opportunity to adjust
the equipment to the most efficiency usage mode and led to the significant energy resources saving.

Implementation of the program on entry of the enterprise to the Federal Wholesale Electric Power Market (FOREM) enabled to reduce expenses on electric power procurement and decrease cost of production. This became possible after implementation at Lebedinsky GOK of automated systems of quantitative and commercial electric power accounting enabled to minimize the costs and to optimize the control over the electric power procurements.

The main types of Lebedinsky GOK products areas follows:
• Iron ore concentrate with Fe content less than 69.5 %.
• Iron ore concentrate with Fe content more than 69.5 %.
• Iron ore non-fluxed pellets with Fe content less than 66.5 %.
• Iron ore fluxed pellets with Fe content more than 66.5 %.
• Iron ore briquettes (hot briquetted iron) with Fe content more than 90 %.

The Plant possesses a gold medal of a Laureate of the inter national exhibition MetalExpo for elaboration and implementation of the complex of activities aimed at production development of new types of iron ore products — concentrate with Fe content more than 70%, fluxed pellets, HBI.
